Save Brass

Overview

Save Brass was built to be a marketplace for discounts just like Netflix was built for movies. The idea was to create a portal for people who are entrepreneurs and budding entrepreneurs to join for a monthly or yearly fee to gain access to deals negotiated directly with vendors.

Carefully thought-out design

Design-wise, it was important to be able to convey to users the true value of getting a membership— hence why I built the homepage with the following funnel in mind: inform, educate, present and offer.

  • Inform: tell the user what Save Brass stands for and what they offer.
  • Educate: teach users how it works and how they can sign up to start saving.
  • Present: show users example deals that exhibit potential savings and partnerships.
  • Offer: close out the funnel and give users the necessary push to decide on whether to join or not.

Categories are also displayed with the same intention. Deals go on the right while the filters live on the left sidebar. The deals flow down linearly to give more prominence to the vendor logo, vendor, and deal name. It’s purposely designed in that way to get pertinent information to the user with minimal noise and high effectiveness. They can skim through deals and quickly grasp the necessary information they need to be able to consider which offers are worth claiming or relevant to them.

Similarly, the PDP was designed and built to show value to the user. Front and center are the details of the deal. Logo, name, and savings. Some features are visible only on Desktop, like QR codes that allow users that are signed-in to be redirected to the deal or voucher on their device– this permits users to quickly scan and be on the go. I’ve also integrated components that display deals that are from the same vendor to push conversions.

I decided to choose WordPress as the CMS for this project. The custom functionality was a suitable fit for the requirements of the client. I created a new theme, added custom fields and post types. This allowed for deals that had categories and brands/vendors attached to them. After development and integration, I configured git, continuous integration and deployment. Now, every time the ‘master’ branch was pushed to or merged into, the updates would transfer over to the server.

Outfit Barn

Overview

A chic NYC boutique looking to separate itself from the rest. Outfit Barn wanted to rebrand and required a complete overhaul of its design. I built their logo and website (two parts, web is different from mobile experience). Truly an exciting and enticing project.

Final words

Like with any branding project comes intense pressure to build something that translates design into the voice of the company and its products — this was no different. The end result was a fine e-commerce experience that offers ease-of-use with a boutique look that you don’t get tired of seeing.

Dog and Meow

Overview

Dog and Meow is a portal based on a community of Dog and Cat lovers. As per the requirements of the project, I designed a simple, elegant and cute user interface for the client. Some dev work was involved but the majority of the engagement was in part doing the web design overhaul and getting the store hooked up to the forum’s user database. Another cool feature was the CSS style cookie I instilled into the front end for Dog vs. Cat users; this gives users the option to hide categories they don’t want to see (because there are a lot categories). In the end, we made sure the design was responsive to mobile devices.

Final words

I love dogs so it’s a given that I would love working on this project. We’ve done so much to ensure an overall better experience when it comes to browsing forums. It’s a tough task especially when you have so many topics. Although we’re still working on completing the site soon, I think the idea of mixing the two little companions is epic (in the name and the idea of both together). I think cats and dogs are meant to be friends.

Monterey

Overview

Monterey has been one of my favorite and most fulfilling projects to have ever worked on. I really built this theme because I wanted to create a foundation on which you can bring on your own terms and conditions. I want this design, sure, it can be done with Monterey.. I want this design, sure, that’s possible too. The options are pretty much endless. The amount of different configurations are unlimited. A true tailor fit suit is measured to your body, Monterey is measured to your brand. I hope you love it like I did. You can download it for free below.

This project really put JT’s Monterey to the test. We installed the theme and got right to work. Although, most of the changes were made within Shopify’s dashboard ecosystem, we made a few edits to the core theme to ensure Waist Shaper Co would have the key features they needed for their products. It’s always a pleasure bringing a new reality into life for a company with no current online presence.

Daily Kix

Overview

Daily Kix is a daily deals website dedicated to consumers looking for sneaker bargains. They update their deals every day with one men’s and one women’s deal. In addition to the custom WordPress design, I also built a plugin for WordPress where the available sizes for the deals posted were brought in real-time via API. The plugin was able to provide the client with much higher conversions because only people that were interested in the deal and had their size available would click through to the partner site. More conversions, higher CTR equals a higher commission rate.

I find the sneaker business very interesting. The amount of new sneakers that come out everyday, the amount of people who are anxiously waiting for new releases and the money spent on them every year… these are all numbers to be seen! I have many friends who buy and sell sneakers for a living so it was extremely exciting to get into their world for some time. Another awesome thing was the fact that I got to experience integrating an API within a WordPress plugin. SO cool!

While, I struggled with Athena at first, the overall result was worth the extra hassles. The most interesting part of the development was the integration of custom fields. It really opened up a lot of doors for . For the convenience of JT users, we took the help of ACF otherwise known as Advanced Custom Fields. Proud of the way it turned out and hope that a lot of people take advantage of the work we did with it.

InkHotels

Overview

Who doesn’t love traveling? Booking your itinerary shouldn’t be a hassle and that’s what the team at InkHotels believes. They offer a search engine that gives options to search flights, hotels, car rentals and vacation packages. I was given the privilege of designing their homepage and landing pages. InkHotels was a partner with Priceline so they used their booking agent as the backend. Through the design template I built for them, I emphasized the use of their toll-free number to assist with making easier bookings which would translate into higher conversions.
